Option 1 ### Essential Circuits A smaller generator powers the circuits you pick through a dedicated transfer switch. Everything else stays off until the grid comes back. It depends on the generator size and brand, the transfer switch, how far the unit sits from your panel and gas source, and the pad. That depends on what you want running during an outage. We start with your list, essential circuits or the whole home, and run a load calculation, which is included in every generator proposal. Sizing to a real calculation instead of a guess is what keeps a generator from being overloaded or oversized. Will a generator run my central air? It can, if it's sized for it. Whole-home systems are typically sized to carry central AC. An essential-circuits generator usually isn't. Your proposal lists exactly which loads your generator is sized to run. Natural gas or propane? Standby generators run on either one. If you have natural gas service, the generator can run on that. If not, it runs on propane from a tank. Your propane company or gas utility supplies the tank and fuel and bills you directly, unless your proposal includes it. Do you handle the gas line? We coordinate it. Gas work has to be done by a licensed plumber or gas fitter, so we bring one in, or work with your propane company, and schedule it alongside the electrical install. They're listed in your proposal. Do I need a permit? Many cities and counties require one. Where the local authority requires a licensed electrical contractor to pull the electrical permit, we pull it, and the permit fee is passed through to you. Which brands do you install? We're an authorized dealer for Generac, Briggs & Stratton and Cummins, and we'll recommend the model that fits your home and budget. Are there tax credits or rebates for generators? We don't promise any tax credit, rebate or utility incentive. Programs change and eligibility depends on your situation, so check with your tax professional or utility before counting on one.
